Reporting to the Assistant Director of Marketing Communications and Social Media, the Marketing and PR Manager manages the University's media relations activities; creates and edits content for the website, University publications, and social media; and prepares employee communications materials. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Manages all media relations activities, including but not limited to writing news releases and media alerts; pitching major news and feature stories; cultivating media contacts; generating and responding to media inquiries; and facilitating connections between faculty, administration and media representatives.

  • Tracks and reports University mentions in all media outlets

  • Assists the Vice President in managing media crisis communications

  • Conducts research and interviews in order to write and edit content for the University website, publications, marketing collaterals, and social media sites

  • Represents the University at various on-campus and off-campus events

  • Prepares speeches and talking points for the University President and others who represent the University at on- and off-campus events

  • Creates and manages the content and distribution of an electronic employee newsletter

Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations or related field and 1-3 years public relations, marketing or similar experience. Must have a creative and collaborative spirit with a can-do attitude and the ability to consistently meet goals and complete assignments independently.

Communication Skills

Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills

Technical Skills

Proficiency with the personal computer and Microsoft Office. The ability to make edits to the University’s web page as needed. Knowledge of social media and basic video editing skills.

Language Skills

The ability to read, write and communicate effectively, with creative writing ability. Literate in AP style writing. Ability to articulate internal concerns and desires properly to outside vendors and constituents. Ability to report and present information to small and large group audiences. Fluency in Spanish is preferred but not required.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations. Must be able to create and interpret financial reports.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply principles of logic and problem solving to a wide range of intellectual, interpersonal and practical problems. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

Interpersonal Skills

Ability to interact effectively and professionally with others.
