Summary of Position

  • Conduct Workplace Evaluations in conjunction with medical staff, demonstrating an understanding of safety protocols for a variety of environments.
  • Investigate accidents and safety incidents in workplaces, following up with written reports.
  • Perform Clinical Evaluations for respirator programs, exposure assessments, etc.
  • Explain safety precautions to employees and provide education and training to clients and patients of the clinic.
  • Provide outreach to potential clinic participants.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Perform Workplace Evaluations; responsible for developing policies regarding evaluations and strategies to access worksites; evaluating the workplace exposure, work practices, personal protective equipment and engineering control aspects of the work environment based on the worker/patient symptomatology.
  • Provide recommendations to patient/worker and employer; follow up with patient/worker and employer to determine effectiveness of recommended changes.
  • Conduct Clinical Evaluations including responsibility for the following: manage respirator programs including respirator fit testing; perform Exposure History and Assessment and provide written report to LHCP; identify resources and references related to exposures.
  • Provide technical support to physicians in evaluation of a workplace injury or illness.
  • Develop and deliver education and training to clients and patients of the clinic, including: Individual patients/workers; Groups (employees, employers, unions, etc.); medical providers; relevant students
  • Develop and procure educational materials .
  • Provide critical analysis of (outside) IH evaluations.
  • Provide consultation for group screenings.
  • Provide expert testimony.
  • Answer technical questions from patients/workers, medical providers, employers, unions, community organizations, EHHAW clinical staff.
  • Conduct Outreach in conjunction with the clinical team to actively seek opportunities to provide IH and other EHHAW services: work closely with Marketing to market IH and EHHAW services; network with other IH’s, AIHA, etc.
  • Act as a liaison with government agencies as necessary
  • Assist with data surveillance, grant writing, research as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education, Training, Licenses, Certifications

  • BA in engineering, chemistry, physics, biological sciences, or related; Masters’ preferred.
  • Certified industrial hygienists (CIH) and/or willingness to attain certification within one year of date of hire.

Relevant Work Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • 4 – 6+ years of relevant professional work experience. (R)
  • 3+ years’ experience in a clinic or medical setting, including health insurance/pharmaceutical. (R)
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, presentation, interpersonal, interviewing). (R)
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint, Outlook). (R)
  • Ability to interpret and analyze data/information; and to develop reports, findings, and recommendations. (R)
  • Strong team player, able to work well across at all leadership levels. (R)
  • Ability and flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and nights, especially during times of crisis. (R)
  • Ability/willingness to travel (30% + of time) to multiple sites to perform assessments, evaluations, and related duties. (R)
