Position Summary:



Performs typical laser cutting operations; selects proper cutting programs and proper fixtures. Establishes proper stop location; adjusts laser beam focal point; makes proper set-ups for cutting operations, and performs prescribed maintenance as required. Detects and reports defective materials or questionable conditions to supervisor.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Understands machine setup including: program retrieval, proper gases, proper nozzles, and materials.
  • Understands start-up and shut down for laser machines.
  • Diagnoses machining problems while performing jobs, making modifications as needed.
  • Operate hi-lo, tape measure, calipers, and hand tools.
  • Can perform laser cutting operations efficiently and effectively, per specifications.
  • Check Quality of product machined and notify supervisor of process issues.
  • Operates and navigates in a windows based computer environment.
  • Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Perform operator maintenance and/or 5S housekeeping per established schedules
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Operating vehicles, mechanized devices, or equipment - running, maneuvering, navigating, or driving vehicles or mechanized equipment, such as forklifts

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • 1 year experience working in a manufacturing environment
  • 1 year of laser operating experience
  • Training in general safety, electrostatic discharge awareness, foreign object damage, awareness and quality system awareness.


Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge: Competency with laser machines, calipers, bore/ID gauges, height gauges, and other inspection equipment as required. Ability to use math to analyze information and measuring equipment. Ability to work closely and follow instruction and written processes. Strong attention to detail. Ability to work at a quick pace while maintaining quality and safety standards.

Skills: Good verbal and written communication skills; Good computer skills.

Abilities: Ability to accurately prepare documents, production sheets and other reports and related paperwork as required by our procedures; Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquires or complaints; Ability to bring assignments to a successful completion; Ability to apply principles of logical thinking of a wide range of practical problems; Ability to work independently and make independent decisions.

Physical Demands: While performing duties of this job, would occasionally be required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop or kneel, talk and hear, and use fingers and hands to feel objects, tools or controls. Work might entail significant time spent standing, exposure to extreme temperatures, enduring distracting/uncomfortable sounds and noise levels, as well as exposure to potentially hazardous conditions and equipment. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds. Employee may be required to climb stairs as needed to access various areas of the building. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perceptions, and the ability to adjust focus. Overtime may be necessary as work load’s dictate. This may include weekdays, weekends and/or holidays.
