This National Guard position is for a HOUSING MANAGEMENT ASSISTANT, Position Description Number D0604000 and is part of the FACILITY ENGINEERS, National Guard.


The incumbent will be responsible for managing a warehouse operation and the billeting of a variety of temporary quarters to include barracks, BOQs, BEQs, and VIP housing as well as other troop buildings in the cantonment area (e.g., administrative buildings, mess halls, and dining facilities). The work may require supervision of warehouse workers, clerks, laborers, custodians, and maids.

    • NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. If you are not sure you are eligible for military membership, please contact a National Guard recruiter prior to applying for this position.

    • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.

    • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.

    • Must be able to obtain security clearance within 1 year of appointment.

    • Must already be a member of the NY Army National Guard.

    • Ability to establish effective professional working relationships with coworkers and customers, contributing to a cooperative working environment and successful accomplishment of the mission.

    • May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours; overtime may be required.

    • For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver?s license for the state in which they live or are principally employed.


    Military Grades: ENLISTED ONLY

    GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience, education or training which provided a general knowledge of housing management methods, practices and operating techniques. Experience communicating information both verbally and in writing, and the ability to meet and deal with individuals and groups.

    SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least 18 months experience, education or training in billeting management procedures and general business practices related to management of housing facilities. Experience in managing and controlling budgets, materials, manpower needs, contracts, and other viable resources. Experience developing recommendations and planning documents containing justification for housing resources. Experience using automated systems to update, retrieve and analyze data.
