Job Description

The Facilities Maintenance Technician position is responsible for performing diversified duties to safely install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain production and facility equipment.  The Technician will install, maintain, and repair almost all equipment used in the day to day operation of the company. 


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Inspects buildings and other structures to determine functional systems and detect malfunctions and needed repair making notes and recommendations to the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Performs minor electrical maintenance to include but not be limited to replacement or repair of fixtures (e.g. wall switches and outlets, incandescent and fluorescent bulbs and tubes, ballast, sockets, fuses, minor appliances, cords, etc.) using appropriate hand, power and specialty tools. 
  • Performs minor plumbing maintenance (replacement or repair of leaks in drains, faucets, unclogging of drains & toilets).
  • Performs minor painting, carpentry and masonry work (e.g. preparing surfaces and using brush, sprayer, or roller to apply paint, hanging doors, fitting locks and handles, etc.). 
  • Configures, installs, positions, and remounts modular offices and space (e.g. furniture, wall panels, work surfaces,, lighting, file cabinets, etc.) to accommodate user needs and maximize office space using various hand, power and specialty tools, dollies and hand trucks. 
  • Prepares the surfaces and paints various structures and equipment (e.g. walls, floors, roofs, doors, restroom facilities, etc.) to preserve wood and metal parts from corrosion and maintain a safe, comfortable working environment using various painting equipment and related tools (e.g. sprayers, rollers, brushes, thinners, etc.).
  • Assist the Janitorial staff to clean  rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, rest rooms, corridors, stairways, parking lots, and other work areas
  • Order parts and maintain required documents.
  • Work in the pallet shop repairing wooden pallets.
  • Lifting and moving boxes and items up to 60 pounds (e.g. unloading trucks, moving products, and equipment.).
  • Assist in the company's recycling program.  Collection of cardboard, breaking down cardboard, moving cardboard, compacting cardboard into 1,100 pound bales, and moving the cardboard into the storage trailer.  
  • Performing all work related tasks at the Maintenance Supervisor’s request.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English fluently with strong communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Must be customer service oriented. 
  • Ability to meet or exceed the company’s attendance and punctuality standards. 
  • Ability to evaluate objectively, fairly, and consistently. 
  • Ability to use common hand and power tools. 
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and have the ability to understand and follow directions as given. 
  • Ability to learn how to safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, scissor lifts, operate motor vehicles to include vans, pickup trucks, and box trucks.  
  • Use miscellaneous office equipment (e.g. calculators, computers, FAX machines, copiers, etc.).


Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Extreme heat or cold, Lifting or pushing up to 60 pounds, Noise level which may, at times, require normal hearing protection in the form of ear plugs, Heights on ladders, roofs, forklift and scissor lifts, Electricity, Lubricating fluids, cleaning solvents, batteries, etc., Cleaning fluids normally used in custodial duties, Paints and solvents, Bio‐medical waste such as hypodermic needles, body fluids, cultures, specimens, etc.
