Position summary:

The Director of Staff Development (DSD), will assist with staff education and completion of mandatory in-service requirements on a daily basis. Other duties as assigned will include, but may not be limited to development and maintenance of infection control surveillance and monitoring programs for skilled nursing

Position qualifications:

  • Licensed Nurse (RN, LVN) with minimum two years experience in long term care

  • Certification as Director of Staff Development for the state of California

  • Well organized individual with strong supervisory skills

  • Able to create and develop in-service lessons for unlicensed staff, in compliance with Department of Health Regulations

  • Knowledgeable in infection control practices

Staff Development Responsibilities:

  • Develop and present staff education in-services with lesson plans for all mandatory state and federally required in-service topics

  • Develop and present staff education in-services with lesson plans on an as needed basis for any facility issues as they occur

  • Presentation of in-service materials during monthly all staff meeting

  • Maintain accurate record of CNA in-service hours for current and past employees in accordance with state and federal regulations

  • Organize and coordinate preparation and execution of semi-annual disaster preparation in-services and unplanned disaster drills

  • Completion of orientation packets and tour of nursing facility with newly hired or recently transferred employees

  • Monthly completion of schedule of CNA/RNA in-services (to be posted outside of DSD office no later than the 5th of the month)

  • Interview and verify/screen references for potential CNA/RNA applicants
