Job Description

Job Summary:  The Commercial Division Manager – Retread Operations is responsible for the successful operations of 3 retread plants located in NC, TN and FL.  Responsibilities for this position include the planning, hiring, training, counseling, and developing of Retread Plant Managers and Assistant Retread Plant Managers in order to attain financial goals and to maintain company standards.  This position is also responsible for developing an environment which is conducive to accomplishing corporate goals and adhering to HR standards. 

Essential Functions:

  • Ensure assigned locations are effectively staffed by managing the hiring, training, and development of all plant management and minimizing turnover

  • Responsible for quality control measures at assigned locations

  • Train, develop and lead Retread Plant Managers, Assistant Retread Plant Managers and Manager trainees on plant operations, customer service techniques and maximizing sales potential by implementing sales plans, having thorough knowledge of products, and monitoring sales trends for the purpose of determining high impact sales opportunities throughout the markets served by the Retread Plant locations

  • Monitor budgets to include annual and capital expenses

  • Control budgets to maximize profit potential of market; develop plans to address shortcomings

  • Hold managers accountable and develop and track methods to improve areas below performance standards within the markets

  • Assure market paperwork/processing/reporting, company policies, regulations, and standards are met throughout markets.

  • Responsible for driving production at all assigned locations to exceed goals and profitability objectives through continual focus on budgets, P&L management and KPI’s

  • Train, monitor and ensure company safety and security standards as well as manufacturers’ guidelines are enforced to provide a work-safe environment

  • Communicate and collaborate effectively and professionally with Corporate Office employees to include Executive Management, Purchasing, Human Resources, Accounting, and other departments as required

  • Maintain knowledge of market competitors, tire industry and new developments

  • Manage plant inventory within company established standards and policies

  • Responsible for driving sales to exceed goals while also driving strong profit margins

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Management Responsibility: 

The Commercial Division Manager – Retread Operations is responsible for hiring, training, coaching and developing plant leaders in assigned locations, and operates under the general direction of VP, Business to Business.


Education and Experience:

High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of five years’ experience simultaneously managing multiple locations (Management in retreading, commercial tire or automotive related business preferred), or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Demonstrated ability in interviewing, hiring, training, and developing teammates

  • Ability to provide performance management for teammates with a focus on accountability and follow up; ability to perform investigations as needed 

  • Ability to read, interpret and communicate business and financial documents regularly  

  • Possess basic math skills with the ability to interpret and calculate data on financial reports

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to communicate and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram or schedule form 

  • Ability to identify problems by collecting data, and establishing facts in order to produce practical decisions and solutions

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to change focus quickly to meet business needs

  • Strong sales orientation and customer focus

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • This job operates in an automotive shop environment.  The job will have exposure to a moderate noise level, adverse weather conditions, chemicals, odors, dirt and dust.

  • Must possess a current valid driver’s license and have a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Report (MVR)

  • Ability to work flexible hours, days, evenings, weekends and holidays

  • Frequent traveling within assigned region (Tennessee, North Carolina, Florida)

  • Must be able to lift, carry and stock merchandise and supplies up to 100 lbs. without assistance

  • Frequent standing and walking for long periods of time
