What you will do

An R&D Chemical Engineer/Chemist in the sustaining group works on testing and supporting the existing fire suppression agents within the portfolio. This R&D work includes alternate supply chain evaluations, support to operations, and interfacing with approval agencies to gain approval listings on products. In addition, the R&D Chemical Engineer/Chemist will witness live fire tests conducted per global standards. In the formulation development process you occasionally will be asked to lift up to 40 pounds when preparing test samples.

The candidate should have the ability to learn, change, and adapt as needed in support of business priorities and have strong communication skills.

What we look for


  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry is required

  • 2-5 years' full-time work experience required

  • Strong laboratory background and lab safety focus


  • Surfactant and/or Polymer experience is preferred

  • Strong knowledge of grinding and blending technologies is desirable

  • Fundamental understanding of fluid dynamics is beneficial.

  • Mechanical aptitude and pilot plant experience is beneficial.

  • Research & development (R&D) experience is desirable

  • Experience in Fire Protection field is desirable and willingness to participate in codes and standard development is desirable.

  • Experience with stage-gate type product development processes is desirable

  • Design for Six Sigma Black Belt course work or certification is a plus

  • Project management skills are a plus
