ENTRY REQUIREMENTS




Current certification as an athletic trainer.




Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training




Current License in Athletic Training




Previous clinical experience in physical therapy and/or field experience in athletic training, desirable.




Current advanced first aid certification or EMT certification helpful.




ORGANIZATION




Ability to work with Rehabilitation Services Manager in organizing and effectively executing athletic training consultation to area high schools and at community events.




This position includes responsibility for supervision of high school and junior high school student trainers and athletic training student affiliates.




General work activity, including school training room and community event activities in the Rehabilitation Department and in the high school under the direction of the Rehabilitation Services Manager.




This position has need for efficient interaction with other professional people in the hospital, patients, and patient families.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

Acknowledges that safety is a self-responsibility. Knows the physical requirements of the job and work within those guidelines. Performs job duties safely at all times, utilizing learned body mechanics and transferring/lifting techniques. Plans actions to promote safety. Reports any unsafe situation/equipment according to Hospital procedure.




Provides athletic training services at school settings and at community events within accepted standards (includes taping, first aid, exercise consultation, and physician referral).




Performs physical therapy procedures and modalities as delegated by the physical therapist.




Performs selected measuring procedures, such as range of motion, gross strength of muscle groups, length and girth, and vital signs.




Interprets the above measurements with regard to the patient’s progress toward previously established long and short term goals.




With prior approval by the physical therapist, adjusts specific treatment procedure in accordance with change in patient status. The athletic trainer shall discontinue any treatment procedures which in their judgment appear to be harmful to the patient.




Responds to inquiries regarding patient status to appropriate parties within the protocol established by the supervising physical therapist.




Refers inquiries regarding patient prognosis to a supervising physical therapist.




Provides supervision, along with the physical therapist, of physical therapy aides involved in the treatment of patients previously delegated to their care.




As a member of the treatment team, assists in assuring that the patient is periodically reassessed by the physical therapist.




Attends team patient care conferences, chart rounds, and reports at same designated by physical therapist.




Provides documentation of treatment program and relays same to the physical therapist for co-signature.




Participates in quality assurance activities of the department.




Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
