Under the leadership of the Nurse Manager, the Assistant Nurse Manager is responsible for daily operations the nursing unit. Able to provide age appropriate nursing care and serve as a resource to the units patient population. Must be adaptable to a fast-paced ever-changing environment. A strong team player. Must possess exemplary customer service skills and demonstrate consistent use of EMMC Caring Behaviors. Ability to communicate well with all members of the healthcare team. Must project a professional image at all times. Responsible for holding staff accountable in maintaining compliance with CMS Conditions of Participation and Joint Commission Standards.

Any combination of the following position; Clinical Educator, Staff Nurse II, Staff Nurse I, Staff Nurse, Registered Nurse, Unit Secretary, Monitor Tech and other positions that are required to meet the operation demands of the department.Responsible for shift operations of a nursing unit. In collaboration with Nurse Manager, responsible for operations of a nursing unit. In the absence of nurse manager, assumes operational departmental responsibilities.


  • Ensures the delivery of quality care in accordance with regulatory and hospital standards and policies.

  • Oversees and coordinates daily shift activities of nursing unit.

  • Under the direction of the unit's leadership, sets daily and monthly schedules.

  • Assists Nurse Manager by providing clinical expertise, serving as a mentor, clinical educator, and directing patient care.

  • Participates in the hiring, training /staff development and daily activities of assigned staff and performance management.

  • Encourages and supports growth and development of team.

  • Maintains and exhibits a current knowledge of profession and participates in continuing education.

  • Maintains a safe environment for patients, healthcare workers, and/or visitors complying with NLH policies and procedures; reviews, documents and addresses all incidents and safety violations within area of responsibility; reports all lost time due to reported work injuries within 24 hours to local HR BP or Safety contact; supports and facilitates open and non-punitive communication among NLH employees, non-employed healthcare workers, patients and visitors, reporting and addressing patient and environmental safety concerns.

  • May perform other duties upon request.
