What this role is all about:

We are looking for an Assistant Cheese Maker in Jerome, ID .

The Assistant Cheese Maker helps turn milk into cheese. They also assist in the creation of new recipes as well as produce the tried and true, quality recipes. Under the direction of our Cheese Maker, they help our cheese department achieve their goals. The Assistant Cheese Maker also assists in teaching and training our cheese making team.

  • Carries out duties as requested by Head Cheese Maker.

  • On call 24/7 and may be asked to report to the plant during non-regular scheduled hours.

  • Monitoring the Starter Make and make any necessary adjustments or trials for bulk or direct set cultures.

  • Supervises and coordinates workers engaged in the production of cheese to include recipes, vats and belt parameters and make any necessary changes to insure that all analytical testing is in spec.

  • Assist Head Cheese maker in the training of employees in cheese making methods and procedures.

  • Work with plant, corporate and client personnel to resolve day-to-day production issues as they arise.

The Requirements (Minimum Qualifications):

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

  • A minimum of 5 years' experience with working directly on the cheese makes process with emphasis on Vat Makes, recipe management and Starter processes.

The Extras (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Certified Cheese Professional (CCP) license preferred, but not required.

Required Skills:

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment.

  • Be able to move up and down stairs.

  • Occasionally move up to 50 pounds.

  • Able to move around from each work station in a manufacturing environment most of the shift.

  • Be able to work at floor level, waist level, and shoulder level repetitively.

  • Be able to work the shift assigned and fill in other shifts as needed.

  • Be able to work weekends (including Saturday and Sunday) and off shifts if needed or assigned.

The Location:

Our Jerome, ID, plant is home to approximately 400 employees and processes approximately 7 million pounds of milk per day. This facility produces various types of cheeses, such as; mozzarella, cheddar, provolone, muenster, parmesan, romano, Monterey jack, gouda, and asiago. They also run various whey streams, such as; deproteinized whey, sweet dairy whey, GMP, permeate, instantized, and our top-rated BiPro products.
