REGULAR HOURS OF WORK: 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.



IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Director of Educational Services



DEPARTMENT: Educational Services



SPECIFICATIONS:

Specialized instructor providing physical development training to individuals who have a developmental disability. The employee works with considerable independence, receiving general and professional direction from Director of Educational Services. As an employee of the Fairfield County Board of Developmental Disabilities, the job incumbent shall comply with all Board policies at all times, and shall demonstrate respect for, support the dignity of, and observe the rights of all individuals served by the agency.


Duties

55% Prepares individual program plans and uses appropriate strategies for providing instruction in physical development; assists staff members in assessing motor skills, developing program objectives, and implementing individual programs to develop motor skills.



10% Measures and assesses motor skills, abilities to establish motor development levels through the use of assessment and evaluations; interprets results of assessments to design specific individual motor skill objectives.



10% Maintains documentation, prepares written records, reports assessments, and maintains program objectives and progress data for regular evaluations and revisions of individual program plans.



7% Participates as a member of interdisciplinary team; works with other professional staff in delivering, evaluating, and modifying total implementation plans; attends and participates in team staff meetings.



5% Performs other related duties as assigned by the administration.



4% Maintains discipline in the class. Complies with individual behavior plans, as applicable.



3% Attends and participates in in-services and workshops. Provides consultation and in-service training to staff, families, and others to assure continuity of motor skills development programming.



2% Maintains professional ethics in keeping with the confidentiality of information and material which he/she shall come in contact.



2% Is available for parent conferences throughout the year. Maintains open communication with parents so they will understand objectives of adaptive physical education.



1% Serves on committees assigned by the Director, assists administration in preparing Board policy relating to students. Assists in selecting in-service topic presenters.



1% Complies with Safety Rules established for the purpose of fulfilling compliance with Ohio Employment Risk Reduction Standards, Rules, or Orders, through the utilization of protective equipment and decontamination techniques.



Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher.
  • Physical Education Certification with Validation in Adapted Physical Education.
  • Certification as water safety instructor, senior lifesaving or adapted aquatics.
  • Must be physically capable to lift up to 50 lbs. per lifting policy, carry or move enrollees, including children, adolescents, and adults in a safe manner, according to in-service training.
  • Maintains First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Current, valid Ohio Driver's License, points on driving record may not be equal to or exceed 6 and must be acceptable to agency insurance carrier.
  • Must be able to tolerate several hours in a therapy pool with temperatures of 92oF – 94oF (doctor’s release required).

PROBATIONARY PERIOD: One (1) calendar year
