Job Summary

The Strategy, Innovation and Product Development (SI&PD) team is responsible for creating and delivering the Allstate Roadside Services (ARS) value proposition and competitive advantage. The team is charged with managing multiple functions including: Strategy development and implementation; Innovation; and Product design and execution. Additionally the team will oversee special projects, cross functional teams and contracted consultants required to drive ARS strategy.

The Strategy, Innovation and Product Development Expert will design, develop, manage and lead projects / people using technical skills that support ARS product strategy and will be responsible for delivering innovation concepts across ARS and Allstate Areas of Responsibility. This manager will work closely with the ARS cross-functional leaders in Allstate Auto Product Management and Product/Service Innovation & Design and leaders in the roadside industry to drive strategic initiatives and innovation platforms that help to differentiate ARS in the emergency roadside space, as well as distinguish Allstate in the auto insurance space. Through a respectful, constructive and energetic style, guided by ARS’ operating principles, the SI&PD manager provides the vision, direction, and management oversight necessary to deliver the proper product development and innovation tools, systems, resources and controls that contribute to ARS’ sustainable and profitable growth.

This role is specifically to Secondary product development.

Key Responsibilities


  • Responsible for assigned deliverables of the Strategy, Innovation & Product Development Team
  • Participate as a key SI&PD team member providing thought leadership, contribute oversight and direction on the ARS strategy, value proposition, and innovative products, services and technologies
  • Develop a strong innovation road-map and “game changing ideas” that align ARS business strategy and business model, and that drive ARS to the forefront of the roadside assistance industry
  • Deliver on strategic plans to modernize ARS business model via Business Development with 3rd parties, talent development, process and technology enablement, and product development.
  • Lead, execute and drive adoption of innovative and strategic projects that create competitive advantage and drive operational effectiveness
  • Develop and communicate broad understanding of consumer insights, competitor insights, and emerging industry trends to inform and develop a robust pipeline of ARS products
  • Benchmark best practices in the industry; bring outside information in
  • Identify and size new product opportunities; evaluate the market and competitive environment, for new products and product extensions that support the ARS strategy
  • Develop and continually refine new product development and launch processes
  • Influence technology strategy and business decisions by providing direction in forecasting, strategic planning, measurement, partner performance, financial performance, etc.
  • Analyze long-term impact of new or anticipated strategies and decisions and consider ramifications to ARS
  • Build awareness of ARS in the industry and among Allstate business leaders
  • Build and maintain internal and external networks of innovation contacts
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders (clients, network providers, suppliers, customers, colleagues, etc.) to drive innovation and “learning” initiatives
  • Influence and persuade leaders within and outside of ARS to gain acceptance for complex ideas/new methodologies
  • Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality

Business Developme

  • Leads efforts to deliver approvals, market share growth, adoption and profitability of new initiative, products and programs; including changes to pricing, risk management and contract / legal matters.

  • Plans and coordinates the integration and delivery of planned changes/projects/ products to regions/field and operational support functions.

  • Represents ARS as subject matter expert and critical resource to cross functional and external stakeholders, enabling effect execution of pilots, products and programs.

  • Anticipates and makes recommendations to solve market specific implications of business strategies

  • Assures proper execution of regulatory/legislative practices for Product Management

  • Directs the development/ design of new plans, programs, processes or product features that are of high complexity

  • Creates concept designs. Addresses feasibility (financial, operational, technical). Develops requirements and measurements

  • Develops communication strategies and materials to support new plans, programs, processes or products

  • Solicits and integrates input from key stakeholders

  • Proactively evaluates procedures and processes regularly and determines/ recommends alternatives or improvements

  • Ensures processes are followed and applied consistently throughout team/department

  • Evaluates and implements process improvements to internal and external compliance requirements/standards

Research and Analysis

  • Advanced knowledge in the use of data sources and applications to conduct research

  • Researches and interprets demographic, economic and competitor data to identify markets/ segments for opportunities to impact growth and profit

  • Directs and evaluates trend analysis (e.g., competitor analysis, risk management, financial) and recommends changes based on findings

  • Research and lead change and innovation of advanced actuarial formulae (if applicable)

  • Determines appropriate analyses to be conducted for projects to make recommendations to achieve corporate goals

Functional Knowledge

  • Stays current with skills by continually seeking opportunities for learning and development within their respective discipline(s)

  • Possesses advanced working knowledge of policies and procedures in management or other technical fields

  • Leverages awareness of current industry standards/environment to impact decisions and indicate requirements

  • Minimum of a BA, MBA Preferred

  • Minimum of 6-8 years+ of experience in product development and execution; Fleet Product development experience preferred

  • Ability to plan and manage at both the strategic and operational levels

  • Ability to design and establish financial goals and measures

  • Experience with web design and mobile applications

  • Outstanding consultative selling abilities and excellent interpersonal skills with senior level customers and partners

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Inspire a positive team environment and motivate others to achieve better than expected results

  • Ability to manage through ambiguity, prioritizes multiple projects to meet business partner needs

Compensation Data

  • Compensation range for this position is $95,000.00 - $145,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications.
