JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Qualified to provide, or supervise the provision of specially designed instruction to meet the unique needs of children with disabilities, knowledgeable about the general education curriculum, and knowledgeable about the availability of resources of the LEA (IDEA 2004).
- Experience in conducting in-services and training for staff, preferred.
- Demonstrates ability to coordinate and collaborate with parents, staff, community, and outside agency personnel.
- Demonstrates leadership and management skills in the workplace.
- Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively orally and in written form.
- Demonstrates ability to use technology in the workplace.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Demonstrates knowledge of special education policy, procedure, and protocol.
- Remains current in the research and best practices related to students with disabilities as well as the state and federal regulations.
- Provides training to staff on special education procedures, forms, and requirements.
- Makes sure that all necessary paperwork is obtained for Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings, the five essential roles and personnel identified in the document, that all time deadlines are met, and that all procedural safeguards for students and parents have been followed and are in place.
- Reviews IEP goals and progress reports to make sure that they are of high quality, appropriate, and procedurally compliant.
- Keeps the ESS Director abreast of special education needs of assigned elementary schools.
- Collaborates closely with the site administration.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for chairing I.E.P. meetings
- Facilitate a continuum/uniformity of I.E.P. processes and procedures by regularly meeting with special education staff.
- Act in the role as a liaison between the IEP teams and district in allocating district resources.
- Inform Principal and Director of Special Education of the needs of elementary special education students.
- As appropriate, meet with classroom teachers, teams of teachers, and specialists to address the special education needs of students.
